Barrington High School boys volleyball team defeats Scituate by 3-2 to win Division Two-North title
Monday night turned out to be what the Barrington High School boys volleyball team had wanted it to be. The Eagles were able to hand out a beating to Scituate in a match that went on for five long and exciting sets. The victory that was achieved in the home
court of Barrington earned them the title of the champions of the Division Two-North regular season.
The match took on an interesting note as the first two sets were bagged by Barrington, whereas the third and the fourth ones were secured by Scituate. The fifth set ended after an intense struggle between the Eagles and Scituate in which Barrington come
out stronger of the two. By the time that Barrington had started celebrating their hard earned win with the home crowd; Scituate was heading out of the court cradling their disappointment. The score board displayed the following final set scores: 25-19, 25-22,
25-20, 25-21 and 15-10.
Coach Christian Lambert of the Eagles relayed his feelings in the following words after his team had won the regular season title: “I really didn’t address the division title with the boys. They have a goal that they set, and that was to win 17 matches this
season. After that I'm sure they'll want to celebrate both the division win and the achievement of their own goal.”
With their recent win, the Eagles have been able to improve their overall number of season wins to 14. These victories have been accomplished at the cost of only one loss. In comparison, the performance statistics of the Spartans were not too admirable a
record. The Spartans have gotten themselves a win eight times with seven losses.
The first set of the game saw Barrington come out strong. They were able to take the lead at the start of the match and put Scituate under pressure. Scituate could not do much to stop the onward march of Barrington except trail behind. As a result, the Eagles
were able to make a quick job of winning the first set of the match at 25-19.
Capitalising on the momentum built by winning the initial set of the game, the Eagles started the second set on a similar tone as the previous one. However, Scituate gave Barrington some competition all through the set. Despite that, the Eagles sealed the
deal on the second set as well at 25-22.
The next two sets were won by Scituate at 25-20 and 25-21 respectively before Barrington secured the final set of the game at 15-10.
