Barrington High overpowers Classical High 3-1 in Division II Sate semi-final: High School Volleyball
Barrington High boys volleyball team was able to hand out a defeat to Classical High on Tuesday and move on to the Division II state championship final. The victory that the Eagles were able to secure over their rivals was obtained with final set scores
of 25-15, 25-16, 20-25 and 25-20.
The semi-final match played between the two teams at Rhode Island College saw the first two sets being easily bagged by the Eagles. With a seat in the Finals in the balance, the third set was crucial and Classical High was able to step up and give themselves
a chance to win. However, the Eagles proved to be too strong for Classical High as they took the fourth and final set without much difficulty.
The Eagles are heading into the final match with a total of 17 victories under their belt. These wins have been won at the cost of suffering only one loss. As opposed to this, the performance record of Purple falls a shade below as they have 14 wins in this
season, whilw incurring five defeats in all.
Christian Lambert, the coach of the Eagles, commented on his team performance and said, “It feels great. It’s been a long journey. To see the program come all the way from being intramural to club to full-fledged varsity, this is why we did it. We wanted
the kids to be part of an elite program in the state of Rhode Island.”
The start of the first game saw Classical take the lead for themselves but the Eagles did not let them extend the advantage and made the score board show a tie at 5-5. After this point, the Eagles were able to push past ahead and secure the lead. Once they
had the lead, the Eagles did not let Purple take control. With Purple trailing behind, the Eagles were able to end the opening set on their terms at 25-15.
After having won the first set, the Eagles started off the second one confidently. They were able to take control early and kept the pressure on Purple all through the set. Purple never came in a leading position in the second set which the Eagles bagged
at 25-16.
The third set saw Purple put in extra effort and challenge the Eagles. The set became quite intense as the score was tied at 20-20. However, Purple was able to restrict the Eagles and score the next four points to seal the deal on the third set at 25-20.
Unfortunately for Purple, winning the third set was the only moment of glory that they had in the entire match as the fourth set was taken by the Eagles at 25-20.
