Barrow Island expected to prevail in www.dundalkstadium.com Handicap
Barrow Island is expected to win the www.dundalkstadium.com Handicap at Dundalk in Ireland on Monday, July 16, 2012. He will have to outperform 13 other runners to claim the cash prize of €6,900.
The going will be standard in the 1 mile event, which is scheduled to start at 15:25 GMT. The punters will have quite a few options to consider today, but the best one appears to be with Barrow Island, as he has got a pretty decent record in the sport. He
has been priced 15 to 2 by the bookmakers.
The five-year-old gelding has participated in 19 events until now, which shows that he has got some useful experience. However, his strike rate is not on the higher side, as he has managed to win just four times. In addition to that, he has secured the runner
up spot once whereas finished third on three occasions.
The M. Halford’s trainee first came onto the scene in 2010 and looked good in his first ever outing. Although he was unable to finish in the top three, yet his performance was not bad, as he ended up sixth out of 16 runners.
There was a lot of improvement in the young runner’s speed in his next race and he secured a third place finish that time around. He gained a lot of confidence and went onto finish runner up just in his third race.
However, the Irish gelding was unable to win any race in the 2010 season, which was a bit disappointing for his team. He did not have to wait long though and claimed his maiden victory in his first race of the next year. This was not a surprise for anyone,
as he was rated as the favourite to win back then.
Since then, there have been a few ups and downs in the career of Chevalier’s son, which is why he has not won races with consistency. The ongoing season has been good for him, as he has managed to win a couple of times out of five attempts. However, he will
need an error free run in order to take the top spot today.
Shane Foley will be the one partnering Barrow Island at Dundalk today.
