Barry Hawkins aiming for another major title: 2012 Australian Goldfields Open – Snooker Update
Final encounter of the 2012 Australian Goldfield Open snooker event was another easy win for the 2012 Snooker Shootout champion, England’s Barry Hawkins as he cruised into the ultimate title win in no time.
He had a tough opponent like the former World Snooker Championship winner and the 2012 China Open winner, Peter Ebdon at the Bendigo Stadium arena baize in Victoria but still he managed to make it to the top with 9-3 score line.
Hawkins made his way into the final battle with superb performance in the initial round of the event. He stayed focused and kept his tremendous form intact to breeze into the ultimate fight. Playing Ebdon in a final match is not an easy task to handle as
the former champ is quite capable of turning any game into his favour with his outstanding game-play.
However, Hawkins proved that his hard work is paying off for him and he faced Ebdon’s fury with all his strength. He did not give any silly mistakes during the final contest run and tremendously unnerved his opponent. With his brilliant knock, the Hawk has
become one of the in-form players now and he is aiming to add another major ranking title in his account for this season.
While speaking to World Snooker after his match, Hawkins said, “I knocked in quite a few big breaks. It didn't win me the match but it did give me the advantage, keeping him off the table and keeping him under pressure for the rest of the match. Obviously
it's going to give me a bit more confidence, well a lot of confidence to be honest and hopefully I can win another tournament.”
He added. “But it's so tough, just to win one is an achievement. To be the last one standing is unbelievable.”
He will be heading for the upcoming Players Tour Championship (PTC) event where he will try his luck one more time to hit the title.
It will be interesting to see how Hawkins builds up more confidence in his game-play as he carries his winning momentum forward in the snooker season. He is looking very competitive and will undoubtedly make a big impact in the next tournament.
