Barry Hawkins all set for Mark Davis clash in semis of 2012 Australian Goldfields Open
Winner of the 2012 Snooker Shootout event, England’s Barry Hawkins played tremendously against Matthew Selt in the quarter-final stage of the 2012 Australian Goldfields Open snooker event and was able to make his way into the semi-final stage of the event.
He will be facing the winner of the 2012 Six-Red World Championship, Mark Davis in the semi-final encounter.
Hawkins was tremendous in the game from the start when he grabbed the first two frames of the match to push Selt 2-0 down. Selt had no plans of tumbling down in the game so he bounced back brilliantly into the game and claimed the next two frames firing
a couple of superb breaks of 65 and 67 which brought him on 2-2 level before the first session of the match finished.
The second session of the encounter was dominated by Hawkins as he fired some classy snooker knocks to hit the victory by 5-3 score line. He is now looking forward to face Davis in the semi-finals and is feeling all set to play against him. The Hawk is hoping
for a superb clash against Davis because he has played him a couple of times before and is aware of his snooker skills.
In his post match interview with World Snooker, Hawkins said, “Playing Mark in the semis is brilliant because we were speaking about that the other day, saying that it would be good to meet in the semis, one of us is definitely going to be in the final.
But Mark's in the form of his life at the moment, he's winning match after match.”
The Englishman added, “He's playing as well as anyone at the moment. He's playing very well so I'm going to have my hands full tomorrow. We're good friends and travel the tour together so I'm really looking forward to it and hopefully we can both play well.”
Davis booked his semi-final berth after putting an impressive snooker show at the venue to beat Martin Gould by the score line of 5-2. Gould had no chance against Davis as he failed to improvise according to the situation which cost him quarter-final defeat.
