Barry Hawkins beats Anthony Hamilton: 2011 World Snooker Championship, final qualifying round
Anthony Hamilton lost to Barry Hawkins by a frame score of 10-5 in the final qualifying round of the 2011 World Snooker Championship held at English Institute of Sports in Sheffield, England.
The 39-year-old, Hamilton, beat Michael White in round 3 to come up in the final qualifying round. However, his hopes of reaching the most prestigious event of snooker have been ended now.
The overall score line between the players was 78-40, 0-103, 14-91, 68-17, 78-7, 12-70, 60-58, 21-72, 75-30, 86-22, 25-99, 70-0, 59-56, 87-0, and 64-28.
The Hawk, Hawkins, took a flying start in the opener by producing a magnificent break of 71 to have the first 1-0. However, any early nerves were removed by the Robin Hood of Snooker, Hamilton, who showed no reeling effects and bounced back with a mind boggling
match-highest century break of 103 to level the things by 1-1. He also took the following with a couple of quick fires 34 and 57, before losing the fourth and the scores were levelled again by 2-2 before the interval.
After the interval, it was Hawkins, who once again fired up a classy break of 71 in the first frame to lead by 3-2. However, the sixth frame was again pocketed by Hawkins with a couple of quick breaks 28 and 26. The players traded afterwards until the end
of the first session and the scores were 5-4 in favour of Hawkins.
In the evening session the first frame was again dominated by the world number 21, Hawkins, with carving breaks of 64 and 22, before Hamilton clawed back in the eleventh with a superb break of 84 to come with one frame by 6-5.
It was all going neck to neck until the Hawk completely dominated the next four in a row to seal his victory by 10-5.
He took the 12th with a spectacular break of 69 giving his opponent no chance. The 13th frame was a scrappy affair as bout of safety play was seen between both players in which Hawkins came on top to lead by 8-5 before the mid-session
break.
After the mid-session break many chances were seen coming and going but Hamilton could not respond to the flawless safety skills of his opponent who finished the matters off by winning the 15th and 16th with dominant breaks of 44 and
52 respectively.
Barry Hawkins has now gone through with the qualifying round and will face Mark Allen in the last 32 at the Crucible Theatre. Hopefully, it is going to be a promising match between the two.
