Barry Hawkins claims 2012 Australian Goldfields Open title beating Peter Ebdon in final
New snooker season start just got better for the 2012 Snooker Shootout winner, Barry Hawkins of England as he cruised into his first major ranking snooker event title after winning the 2012 Australian Goldfields Open snooker tournament.
The Englishman was up against the former World Snooker Championship winner and the 2012 China Open winner, compatriot Peter Ebdon and was able to defeat him by the score line of 9-3 to claim his maiden title.
The final game began with a tremendous first frame win by Ebdon who clinched the triumph by the score line of 27-69. After that, the Hawk finished the first session in his favour claiming three consecutive frame wins by the score line of 75-8, 80-0 and 120-0.
The Englishman fired a couple of tremendous knocks of 57, 74 and 106.
Hawkins started the second session proceedings with the same performance and hit the fifth frame victory by 119-0 after pocketing a classy break of 114 to move 4-1. After that, Ebdon claimed his second set victory to add one more to his side of the score
board at 4-2. The next two frames of the match were shared between the two potters and the score reached 5-3.
The third session of the match proved to be the last session as Hawkins claimed all four frames of the session by 133-0, 65-10, 74-12 and 73-40 to ensure his victory. He fired three stunning breaks of 133, 74 and 51 to nudge his opponent 9-3 down.
The Englishman started his 2012 Australian Goldfields Open snooker event campaign with his first round match against China’s Xiao Guodong and defeated him by the score line of 5-1. His next opponent in the second round clash was Welsh potter Matthew Stevens
and grabbed another easy win by the score line of 5-2.
The quarter-final clash was comparatively tougher than the first two clashes where he faced compatriot Matthew Selt. He played sensibly in the first session of the match but was unable to defeat Hawkins. The Hawk on the other hand, ousted him by the score
line of 5-3 to hit the semi-final clash against Mark Davis.
The semi-final encounter was also a bit tough game in the second session but Hawkins made it look an easy win for him in the end. He defeated Davis by 6-4 and set up a final match against Ebdon.
