Barry Hawkins into final after beating Mark Davis in 2012 Australian Goldfields Open
Australian snooker fans, who were present at the Bendigo Stadium arena in Victoria, witnessed one of the tussling games of the 2012 Australian Goldfields Open snooker tournament.
The winner of the 2012 Snooker Shootout event, England’s Barry Hawkins entered the arena to face the winner of the 2012 Six-Red World Championship, compatriot Mark Davis in the second semi-final encounter.
As expected, the game was a tremendous clash where both potters did not make many mistakes and played sensibly from the start of the proceedings. However, with brilliant potting skills and great execution, the Hawk was able to book his place in the final
encounter of the 2012 Australian Goldfields Open putting an end to Davis’ run by the score line of 6-4. Despite hard tries, Davis failed to unsettle his opponents and Hawkins cleared the table in no time to ensure his win.
While speaking to World Snooker after winning the semi-final encounter, Hawkins said, “I feel a bit numb at the moment. I feel like my head's spinning, but it feels quite good to be in a final, I think. I haven't had time to let it sink in yet but I'm just
pleased about the way I played in the end.”
He added, “Obviously I said I struggled earlier on in the week, but I played a good match yesterday against Matt Selt so my form was coming.”
The first session of the second semi-final clash between Hawkins and Davis was dominated by the 2012 Snooker Shootout winner as he cruised into 3-1 lead. It could have been 2-2 when Davis was putting immense pressure on Hawkins but the Englishman bounced
back brilliantly and claimed the frame win.
The second session, however, displayed a different picture. Despite a lot of pressure, Davis bounced back brilliantly and claimed back-to-back frames firing two tremendous knocks of 98 and 93 to pull level at 3-3. Nevertheless, after that, Davis could add
only one frame in his score while Hawkins claimed three frame wins to triumph over Davis and book his place in the finals.
It will be interesting to see what Hawkins can do in the final as he is in good form and will be looking to battle it out for the tournament title.
