Barry Hawkins is not scared of playing Mark Selby in 2012 World Snooker Championship
Winner of the 2012 Snooker Shootout winner, England’s Barry Hawkins has been a consistent performer in the recent snooker season and with an impressive display in the 2012 World Snooker Championship qualifiers, he has booked his place in the first stage
of the event against the World Number one, Mark Selby.
Playing Mark Selby in the Championship will not be an easy task for any potter but Hawkins is quite confident of facing the World Number one in his first match and says that he is not afraid of playing against Selby. The Jester from Leicester, Selby, is
one of the toughest opponents in the World Snooker Championship line up who can change the face of the game anytime.
Speaking to the media, Hawkins said, “I'm not scared of playing Selby. I couldn't have been given a tougher first round draw but I'm looking forward to it and I've got nothing to lose. I've beaten him a few times and if I can carry on some of the form I've
shown recently I'll have a good chance.”
He added, “Mark hasn't won as many tournaments as he would've liked but he's always there or thereabouts in the quarter-finals or semi-finals and he deserves to be ranked world number one. He's under more pressure than me though.”
The 2011 Shanghai Masters snooker event winner is on top of his game right now and has displayed impressive form in the 2011-12 Snooker Season. He clinched the 2011 Wuxi Classic beating Ali Carter by the score line of 9-7. After the Wuxi Classic, Selby’s
major success was winning the 2011 Shanghai Masters snooker tournament ousting Mark Williams by 10-9.
He can definitely prove difficult for the Hawk but he is not scared of him as he is all set to take him down in the Championship and advance into the final stages of the tournament. Should he manage to defeat Selby in the first round, he will be facing a
comparatively easier challenge in the second round as his opponent will be the Welshman, Matthew Stevens. It will be exciting to see how Hawkins manages to put in a good performance and carry some winning momentum in to the 2012 World Snooker Championship.
