Barry Hearn adds three more events in PTC – Snooker News
Players Tour Championship (PTC) is an invitational minor-ranking snooker series which was launched by the newly appointed World Snooker Chairman Barry Hearn in the 2010-11 Snooker Season. The Championship initially comprises of 12 events, six international
PTC events and six European tour PTCs. The tournaments received tremendous appreciation across the snooker world in its first launch.
However, World Snooker decided to make some changes in the basic structure of the series during the 2011-12 Snooker Season. After this decision, the European tour PTCs were embedded in the international PTC events and the Championship was organised with
12 International events. This season, the series was outstanding as top players around the World participated in the events.
Continuing the legacy of PTC and its success, World Snooker Chairman Barry Hearn has added three more PTC events which will be staged at China. Addition of three more events will make PTC the biggest snooker series in the season. These three new PTC events
will have a separate Asian Order of Merit and will have the ranking points as the European Tour had.
While speaking to the media about the new PTCs, Hearn said, “Next season there will be a new Asian Order of Merit, and three Players Tour Championship events in China. They will have the same ranking point tariff as the PTC events in Europe, and each will
have prize money of £50,000.”
He added, “The winners of the three events will also be given a place in the PTC Grand Finals. Those seven players will join 25 players from the UK/European PTC Order of Merit to form a field of 32 players for the Grand Finals.”
The new events will be open for all potters from around the World and will play an important role in the promotion of snooker. The new competitions will be staged randomly in the next season. The first contest will commence a week before the 2012 Wuxi Classic,
which was recently made a major ranking event by the snooker boss, Hearn. It will be interesting to see how these new events manage to attract more players and fans to the sport.
