Barry Hearn aiming to produce more opportunities for snooker players – Snooker News
Chairman World Snooker, Barry Hearn has been a key player behind the promotion of snooker across the world with his impressive decisions and steps to promote the game. However, the snooker chief is not tired yet and is eyeing to create more opportunities
for the players so that they can participate in more snooker tournaments and become millionaires.
Hearn joined the snooker governing body, World Snooker in 2009 at the time when the game had no real major sponsors in other parts of the world other than Europe. Hearn took the initiative to promote the game in other continents on emergency basis and soon
made it one of the most recognised sports around the world with his bold steps.
Barry introduced many long and short formatted snooker tournaments including the Players Tour Championship (PTC), Australian Goldfields Open, Brazil Masters, Snooker Shootout, Power Snooker and the World Snooker Qualifying School (Q School). These tournaments
played a major role in promoting the game among viewers of all ages from seniors to the youngsters.
Besides, he erased the concept about snooker being a slow and boring game after he changed the playing format of a couple of major snooker events including the UK Championship. Shorter format of the events brought more young spectators to the arena due to
which the ranking of the game improved. Hearn is now hopeful for more success as he introduces more snooker events in the future to make the game one of the most watched sports on television.
Speaking to the media about his ambition, Hearn said, “In the year that we're trying to get the country back to work, snooker is leading the way. That as a country is what we've got to do. As a sport, what we have to do is create events, give players more
opportunity to earn a living playing their chosen sport. Pretty well all of them have grasped the nettle.”
Hearn is planning to create more snooker tournaments in the upcoming seasons so that the players can have more opportunities to win and make money for themselves and their families. Hearn is eyeing to make millionaires from the sport.
