Barry Hearn believes 2012 World Snooker Championship will put Sheffield in spotlight
World Snooker boss, Barry Hearn has said that organising one of the biggest snooker events in Sheffield will surely boost the economy of the city and will put it in the spotlight.
World Snooker Chairman, Barry Hearn has been the key character in the promotion of snooker across the globe. Since he joined World Snooker as chairman in 2010, he has taken a number of initiatives to increase the viewership of the game. He not only added
several tournaments with different formats of play into the snooker calendar but also revamped the playing formats of some existing events including the UK Championship.
With his steps, the game crossed the UK borders and reached continents other than Europe and now the game is equally watched and appreciated in other countries as well. Since the game is progressing with every tournament, it also strengthens the economy
of the city where the tournament is organised. The World Snooker Championship is taking place at the Crucible Theatre in Sheffield since 1977 and has played an important role in improving its economy.
Now that the 2012 World Snooker Championship is coming back to the Crucible Theatre again, Hearn believes it will bring Sheffield into the spotlight again not only due to the gathering of thousands of snooker fans but also due to the focal point of world’s
top snooker players. Playing at the Crucible Theatre arena is like a dream for every potter in the world.
Speaking to the World Snooker on the occasion of World Championship draw announcement, Hearn said, “The Championship will put Sheffield in the spotlight on a global scale, watched by hundreds of millions of fans around the world.”
The snooker boss added, “We've already had the biggest demand for tickets in the history of the tournament, they are selling at an amazing rate. I'm confident that every seat for every session on every day will be taken. Those lucky enough to be in the arena
will be watching the greatest snooker show on Earth.”
The event will start from April 21 and will conclude on May 7, 2012. The draws for the championship contests have been announced by the World Snooker.
