Barry Hearn believes Stephen Lee is greatest advert for snooker – Snooker News
Current snooker season is finally moving towards its end with the finish of the 2012 World Snooker Championship where top guns of the game will battle for the ultimate glory. After that, the players will enter into a new season for the quest of more titles
in their career. However, the World Snooker Chairman, Barry Hearn has some other plans in the upcoming seasons.
One of the major aims of Hearn includes the promotion of the game across the globe. He has been working really hard on this target and has achieved a lot from his initiatives so far. The snooker boss is not targeting more sponsors in the game so that the
players can get more money for spending their time away from their home at the baize.
For this purpose, Hearn must be thinking to launch a big advertising campaign and introduce more snooker events in the upcoming seasons. He believes that more snooker events will bring more money into the game and players like the 2011-12 Players Tour Championship
(PTC) Grand Finals winner, England’s Stephen Lee can play a key role to fulfil that purpose. Hearn reckons that Lee is one of his greatest adverts in the game.
While speaking to the media about his plans, Hearn said, “Stephen Lee is for me the greatest advert I have for what can go right in snooker and justifies all the plans we've had.”
He added, “So you've got to decide if you're a professional sportsman or a part-time playboy. Part-time playboys lay in bed and go skint. Professional sportsmen make money for their families and for their future. This is the greatest sporting event on the
calendar in this country. This sits up there with Wimbledon, with Test matches, and it's one of those rarities: sport on the BBC.”
Since Hearn became the chairman of World Snooker in 2009, he has accomplished what many thought impossible to take the game to the level it is today. With his drastic steps, snooker is now recognised as one of the major sports in the world, attracting many
young players and increasing a tremendous amount of popularity world-wide.
