Barry Hearn disappointed on Ronnie O’Sullivan’s decision of quitting snooker – Snooker News
World Snooker Chairman, Barry Hearn has expressed his disappointment on the quitting decision of the former three-time World Snooker Champion, Ronnie O’Sullivan. He believes that O’Sullivan’s decision of leaving the game is quite shameful for those snooker
fans who bought the tickets of the 2011-12 Players Tour Championship (PTC) Grand Finals.
The Wordsley potters, O’Sullivan pulled out of the 2011-12 PTC Grand Finals just before his second round match against Ricky Walden. According to the manager of the English potter, he was suffering from the after effects of glandular fever. Due to his illness,
O’Sullivan had to leave his spot in the 2012 Haikou World Open and the 2011-12 PTC Grand Finals.
The O’Sullivan fans were really hurt after he announced his unavailability in the tournament because they had already bought the tickets for the match. The Essex Exocet felt the aftershocks of glandular fever during his flight to Galway. His manager Django
Fung told the media that he was not feeling well during his flight and the doctor advised him to take complete rest that is why he had to withdraw from the tournament.
However, Hearn is not happy because of the fans’ loss but on the other hand, he is contented that the tournament went well and finished successfully on time.
While speaking to the local media, Hearn said, “It's a shame for the fans who had bought tickets. But it's been a brilliant event so far with excellent crowds and some great snooker, watched by tens of millions of people around the world, putting Galway
in the spotlight.”
O’Sullivan caught the glandular fever a few months back and despite the doctor’s advice to rest, he played a couple of tournaments including the 2012 German Masters and the 2012 Welsh Open snooker tournament. He played impressively in the German event and
clinched the title while the Rocket managed to reach the semis of the Welsh event but lost to Mark Selby.
He was on his way to participate in the PTC Finals when he felt a bit trouble due to the after effects of the fever. The doctor strictly forbids him from playing because he cannot stand the pressure situation during the match. O’Sullivan himself felt that
he cannot play under tense situation and said that he wants to get out of snooker.
