Barry Hearn expects big ticket sale for 2012 Premier League Snooker events – Snooker News
After a successful finish of the 2011 Premier League Snooker, where the 2012 World Snooker Champion Ronnie O’Sullivan was winner, the snooker governing body, World Snooker decided to make the series more interesting. The World Snooker Chairman, Barry Hearn
then announced that they have made some format changes in the 2012 Premier League Snooker.
The upcoming Premier League Snooker series will now be played on the basis of new rules. As per the new changes, the 10 players who will be participating in the championship will be divided into two groups and a played will play against all five members
of the opposite group. Both groups will feature top four potters who will play in the semi-final stage of the event.
The players who will play in the 2012 Premier League Snooker is:
Defending Champion: Ronnie O’Sullivan
UK Champion: Judd Trump
Masters Champion: Neil Robertson
Shanghai Masters Champion: Mark Selby
Australian Goldfields Open Champion: Stuart Bingham
Championship League Winner: Ding Junhui
World Champion: Ronnie O’Sullivan
China Open Champion: Peter Ebdon
World Open Champion: Mark Allen
PTC Grand Final Champion: Stephen Lee
Hearn is aiming to make the event one of the most watched tournaments of the calendar. In order to achieve his goal, he has made the new format changes in the event and is hoping for big ticket sales for this event.
While speaking to World Snooker about the2012 Premier League Snooker, Hearn said, “The League has always been about taking top class snooker around the country and allowing fans who don't perhaps live near to one of the major tournaments the opportunity
to see the biggest names in the game.”
The snooker boss added, “This year we are returning to some of the successful venues from the past as well as charting new territory for snooker in towns like Penzance and Spennymoor. With all of snooker's big ticket sellers taking part I expect tickets
to be snapped up quickly when they go on sale shortly.”
Recently, World Snooker has revealed the schedule and venues for the 2012 Premier League Snooker tournament. The first event of the series will commence from Thursday, August 16 at the Embassy Theatre, Skegness while the final event will be launched on Sunday,
November 25 at the Grimsby Auditorium.
