Barry Hearn hails new exciting snooker tournament on amateur circuit: 2011-12 Snookerbacker Classic
World Snooker boss, Barry Hearn appreciates the launch of a new and exciting snooker tournament, the 2012 Snookerbacker Classic. The event will soon be on the amateur calendar, bringing golden opportunities
for amateur snooker players to grab a place in the 2012 Q School and Players Tour Championships (PTC) without any expenses except the fee they pay for the tournament entrance.
The event is being run by Snookerbacker, who owns snookerbacker.com and the tournament is divided into four sub events, along with a grand final in the end.
Snookerbacker Classic Event 1 will be held at the Lucky Break Snooker Centre in Glasgow, Scotland from Sunday, November 6 with a maximum of 32 cuemen. Event 2 will take place in Northern England at
Northern Snooker Centre, Leeds from Friday, December 2 with the same number of players participating.
Event 3 of Snookerbacker Classic will also have 32 players battling at the South West Snooker Academy in Gloucester, Wales and the South West of England from Monday, January 30, 2012. The fourth event
will feature 64 amateurs playing in South of England from Friday, February 10, 2012 at the Chelmsford Snooker Club in Essex.
The dates for the final event of the tournament are yet to be announced, but it is confirmed that the venue for the Grand Final will be South West Snooker Academy in Gloucester.
While speaking to the local reporters, World Snooker chairman, Barry Hearn said, "This a very good initiative as this kind of tournament encourages people to play competitive snooker. Anyone who wants
to follow their dream, play in Q School with the chance to qualify for the main tour, should get their name down."
Snookerbacker added to Hearn's statement, "The event is open to everyone, from semi-professional players to amateurs and young players starting out in the game. Perhaps you might know someone who
is showing promise but just needs a break to achieve their potential? If so, why not enter their name into the event?"
The entry fee for the event is £50 and it will be returned if a player wins four matches and reaches the finals day of the competition. If the player grabs two more wins, he will book a free spot
in the World Snooker Qualifying School (Q School).
By winning the overall tournament, the cueman will receive four PTC entries for free along with the Snookerbacker trophy.
