Barry Hearn happy with Ronnie O’Sullivan return to snooker – Snooker Update
After a six-month brawl with the snooker governing body, World Professional Billiards and Snooker Association (WPBSA) the four-time Word Snooker Championship winner from England, Ronnie O’Sullivan has announced his return to the game.
The Englishman has signed the new season contract with the World Snooker and will be taking part in the 2012 International Snooker Championship followed by the 2012 UK Championship.
World Snooker Chairman, Barry Hearn is very happy for O’Sullivan’s return and believes that his return will add more spice to the energy of the game. During the brawl, he had some exchange of words with the Rocket but now he has put it behind.
While speaking to World Snooker, Hearn said, “I met with Ronnie last night and following our discussion he has signed the WSL Players Contract. We are obviously very pleased that Ronnie has decided to come back to snooker, the sport he loves. This is great
news for his many fans around the World. We welcome him back with open arms.”
The brawl started when the WPBSA announced that they will be adding more events in the new snooker season. The addition of new snooker tournaments was not accepted by the Rocket who believed that the players do need some rest during their season campaign
so that they can be with their friends and families in some private time.
He refused to sign the contract and said that he will take part in selective events. Just because signing the contract was mandatory for all players, O’Sullivan could not get a chance to play in the first two major ranking snooker events. He decided to try
playing through wild card in the 2012 Shanghai Masters snooker tournament but the association cleared that wild card will not be awarded to him as it is the decision of the organising country’s association and WPBSA has nothing to do with it.
However, after giving it a serious thought, the Englishman signed the contract and made it official of his return. He will be practising from now on because he has been missing the competitions for the past six months and need to get back into the game.
