Barry Hearn makes important announcement about next World Snooker Tour – Snooker News
On a successful finish of the 2011-12 Snooker Season, the World Snooker Chairman Barry Hearn has made some new additions in the upcoming season. The chairman visited the Crucible Theatre in Sheffield where the penultimate stage of the 2012 World Snooker
Championship is underway. He made some important announcements there about the new season’s World Snooker Tour.
Hearn has always been in the fore-front of the game always doing something that can drag more viewers to the game. He joined the association in 2009 and since then the snooker chief has been working really hard to promote the game and enhance its viewership
not only in the venues but also on the television where, he believes, snooker has made a lot of improvement.
Next snooker season will also be full of thrill and excitement not only for the spectators bit also for the potters around the world because the chairman has added a couple of more snooker events in the calendar and has made some format changes in the game.
Next year, the old non-ranking invitational Chinese snooker event, the Wuxi Classic will be re-launched as a major ranking tournament. According to the snooker boss, the UK Championship event will be held at the York Barbican Centre for the next two seasons
while the Masters Snooker tournament will be staged at the Alexandra Palace for the next three years.
Speaking to the media at the Crucible Theatre about the new changes, Hearn announced, “The Wuxi Classic is to become a ranking event for the next five years. The UK Championship will be staged at the York Barbican for the next two years. The Masters will
be staged at Alexandra Palace for the next three years.”
Snooker head added, “A new record has been set for ticket sales at the Betfred.com World Championship. Tickets for the 2013 event will go on sale on July 14. BBC TV ratings for the event are up by between 10% and 27%. The cumulative audience in China is
350 million.”
The UK Championship and the Masters event received impressive feedback from the snooker fans in their respective venues which became the reason behind their stay at the same places.
