Barry Hearn says Ronnie O’Sullivan can choose an event to play – Snooker Update
World Snooker Chairman Barry Hearn and the reigning World Snooker Champion from England, Ronnie O’Sullivan are recently having a verbal fight about the new snooker schedule that World Snooker has announced. According to the new snooker tour, there will be
more than 30 tournaments in the next season with a couple of new events to be added in the schedule.
Recently during the 2012 World Snooker Championship, Hearn announced some format changes in the existing snooker events. Besides he also made some announcement about a couple of two new snooker events which will be commenced in China. These new major events
include the International Snooker Championship and Wuxi Classic, which was an invitational competition.
Hearn also added three more events in the Players Tour Championship (PTC) and these three contests will be launched in China. O’Sullivan had some reservations over the crowded season as he believes that the players are unable to spare time for their families.
He also hinted that he will not take part in all tournaments despite the fact that he might face some fine or tumble down in the world snooker rankings.
Meanwhile, the snooker chief has suggested O’Sullivan to take part in chosen events but he loves to see O’Sullivan play in all events. However, if the Essex Exocet does not feel playing in all tournaments he can choose an event he wants to play.
While speaking to the media, Hearn said, “Tiger Woods picks and chooses which golf tournaments he plays in. I think Ronnie should do the same. What we don't want is players entering then pulling out. And if people pull out they will be fined. Last season
he played 60 days of snooker, most people who go to work would recognise that as a pretty low-key year.”
The snooker boss added, “But that's his choice. My choice is to work 365 days a year. Sometimes there's very little logic with Ronnie. He's been telling everyone he's about to retire since the UK Championships when he was 18. That means he's been threatening
it for 18 years.”
The new snooker season will begin with the World Snooker Qualifying School (Q School) event from May 13 at the World Snooker Academy in Sheffield.
