Barry Hearn terms Amir Khan a fraud for not selecting Paul McCloskey – Boxing news
Paul McCloskey’s promoter, Barry Hearn, has labelled the currently unified World Boxing Association Super and International Boxing Federation Light Welterweight Champion, Amir Khan, a fraud after the Brit picked Lamont Peterson instead of Paul McCloskey
as his next opponent.
Khan will take on the Columbian pugilist, Lamont Peterson, on December 10, 2011 at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center, Washington D.C and Hearn thinks Khan has ducked his fighter.
Hearn told the media McCloskey is going to fight Maidana for the WBA title now because Khan has ran away but on the same note, the promoter claimed one day they will defeat Khan in a fair way.
“[Amir Khan], I think you're a fraud. Frankly, just a fraud,” Hearn said to Boxingfutures.com. “Now we go on and we're looking at Maidana for the WBA title. And who knows, one day in the future, we'll get a chance to have a proper fight [with Khan]
on fair terms and [with] fair officials. The next time we'll destroy Amir Khan.”
The Bolton’s finest, who is widely known as King Khan, fought the Dudey, McCloskey, in April 2011 at the M.E.N. Arena in Manchester, England. Their bout ended up in a storm of controversy when Khan secured a technical knockout over McCloskey, as the fight
was stopped in the sixth round by the officiating referee due to a cut on McCloskey’s left eye.
Hearn was not happy with the situation at all as he believed it was not a deep cut. Hearn was quoted a few months back, “It's fanciful to think that was a dangerous cut … the referee should never be allowed in a boxing ring again.”
The 24-year-old Khan although responded to Hearn saying, “There is no point in a rematch.”
Khan has plans to move up to the welterweight division after Peterson bout in search of some big fights. He is especially aiming a mega-fight with the undefeated American legend, Floyd Mayweather.
However, let’s see if McCloskey beats Maidana and somehow sets up a fight with Khan once again, as it will certainly be an explosive bout.
