Barry Hearn thrilled for Masters snooker event stay at Alexandra Palace – Snooker News
Last year’s Masters snooker tournament received immense support from the fans who came to watch the matches at the Alexandra Palace. Due to this feedback, the snooker governing body, World Snooker has decided to keep the Masters event at the Alexandra Palace
for the next three years.
World Snooker Chairman, Barry Hearn, who was the fuel behind snooker’s current promotion, is quite happy to see the Masters event at Alexandra Palace.
Masters tournament is one of the major ranking competitions which have got the status of game’s most prestigious events. Last year the event received impressive support from the fans in London.
The former World Snooker Championship winner from Australia, Neil Robertson was victorious in the final encounter of the 2012 Masters after he defeated the Englishman Shaun Murphy by the score line of 10-6.
Meanwhile, Hearn has been in the fore front of taking new initiatives to promote the game across the globe. Letting the Masters event stay for the next three seasons at Alexandra Palace will definitely boost the game’s momentum of progress as well as the
economy of the city. Hearn is quite excited about the return of the tournament to its previous venue.
Speaking to World Snooker, Hearn said, “We are thrilled to sign this new three year agreement to keep the Masters at Alexandra Palace. It is a fantastic venue and moving this elite invitation event there was a spectacular success. I have no doubt that the
fans will flock to north London again to see the very best players in the world.”
Meanwhile, the Chief Executive of Alexandra Palace, Duncan Wilson said, “We are very proud that Alexandra Palace will host the Masters for the next three years. It is a superb reflection of the event we created with World Snooker 2012, and we will continue
to build on that success. We look forward to hosting and working with the players and the World Snooker team.”
The event will commence from January 13 to January 20 with the top prize of £150,000. The Australian potter, Robertson is aiming to retain the title this season as well.
