Barry Hearn warns Mark Williams on his comments about Crucible Theatre – Snooker News
Former two-time World Snooker Champion, Wales’ Mark Williams made some critical comments about the venue of the World Snooker Championship, Crucible Theatre, and used some objectionable words like ‘rubbish’ and ‘s***hole’. He seemed to be angry as he made
these remarks just a day before his first round match against Liu Chuang of China.
His comments about the World Championship venue must have hurt many snooker fans as well as the World Snooker management. The World Snooker Chairman, Barry Hearn was also shocked at Williams’ comments and could not believe a player like him would make such
remarks about the Crucible.
However, he has warned Williams and has said that the Welsh Potting Machine might face a ban because of his words about the place. Hearn reckoned that the Crucible Theatre is an outstanding venue and has served the game of snooker the most. Hearn further
insisted that the history associated with the Crucible Theatre is synonymous with snooker itself and the World Championship.
Hearn spoke to the media about his concerns over the remarks made by Williams, “Why a double world champion could resort to language like that in the public domain about the venue is totally beyond me. I hope he gets treated accordingly because we expect
a responsibility. We have the powers to do anything provided we've acted reasonably - a potential suspension or a ban.”
The snooker chief added, “The big issue is I don't really want anything like this. This is a very good time to be a snooker player. It's not a good time to be an idiot. There’s so much history associated with the Crucible. I’d be happy to keep the event
at the Crucible until the day I die.”
Initial round competitions of the 2012 World Snooker Championship are underway at the Crucible Theatre in Sheffield with all their thrill and excitement.
A couple of major names have made their way fruitfully into the second round. The names include the former seven-time World Snooker Champion, Stephen Hendry, the defending Champion John Higgins and the former World Champion Australia’s Neil Robertson. Williams
will play his first match against Liu Chuang of the China in the opening round.
