Barry Lane aims a hat-trick of victories at the SSE Scottish Senior Open
Barry Lane is set to defend the SSE Scottish Senior Open when the Englishman tees off at the Torrance Championship Course in Fairmont St. Andrews on Friday, August 17, 2012.
The five-time European Tour winner recorded his maiden victory on the Seniors Tour when he defeated Glenn Ralph and Jim Rhodes with a four-stroke margin at the same event two years ago.
Last year, he successfully defended the title with an amazing display of the game. He eagled the final hole of the tournament and took a two-stroke victory over Gary Koch.
This year, he aims to repeat a similar performance and become the first player ever to complete a hat-trick since Carl Mason did the same when he won the English Seniors Open in 2003, 2004 and 2006.
Lane has been enjoying a great form and is currently a hot favourite for a win in St. Andrew because of his track record in the tournament.
Recently, he participated in the Senior Open Championship presented by Rolex and finished tied for the third position along with Mason. Both the players held the top spot among all the European players who appeared in the event.
He is now pleased to return to the field where he has recorded two of his three Senior Tour wins. The other one came at the Casa Serena Open last year, when he defeated Peter Fowler with a two stroke margin.
“I love links golf and I love playing in Scotland,” he said. “Obviously it suits my game. I was very happy with the way I played in The Senior Open Championship so I’m looking forward to going back to Fairmont St Andrews. I can’t wait”.
According to the golf commentators, Lane will have a psychological advantage over his opponents and it will be easy for him to take a commanding lead early in the tournament.
The only need is to remain consistent and rely on his natural game. He must not try new things. Rather, he should focus on tweaking his game that caused him to stay away from the Senior Open Championship lead in the end.
