Barry Pinches trashes Aditya Mehta in Round 2 of 2012 Australian Goldfields Open qualifiers
Second round of the 2012 Australian Goldfields Open qualifying session featured one of the most tussling qualifier match-up between the Englishman Barry Pinches and India’s Aditya Mehta at the World Snooker Academy in Sheffield. The second round qualifying
clash finished in a decisive frame where Pinches was victorious by the score line of 5-4.
Meanwhile, Mehta gave his best in the event but failed to improvise in the final frame and tumbled down in the game. The Indian potter played tremendously in the 2012 Wuxi Classic snooker event qualifying session but was not able to make it to the televised
stages of the event. However, he started off well in the Aussie event qualifiers but Pinches ended his hopes with a classy victory.
Both cuemen went neck-to-neck from the very start as they did not let each other take the lead. Until the finish of eighth frame, both shared four frames each and dragged the match into the decider frame. The two players fired outstanding clearances during
their run. Pinches fired classy breaks of 71, 92, 142 and 78 while Mehta pocketed breaks of 67, 61, 101 and 76 to pull level at 4-4.
The final frame of the match was even tougher than expected as both cueists played cautiously from the start not giving any chances by silly mistakes. The frame took 73 minutes to finish featuring Pinches as eventual winner of the match. Pinches will next
meet Ben Woollaston in the third round of the 2012 Australian Goldfields Open qualifying session.
Meanwhile, the veteran potter Rod Lawler continued his dominance with a remarkable victory over Mark Joyce by a whitewash score line of 5-0. Joyce had no chances to get back into the game while Lawler, with the highest break of 81, nudged him down easily.
It seems Lawler has found his spark that he lost somewhere during the last season. The experienced potter was considering retirement from snooker a couple of weeks ago but he reviewed his decision and decided to stay in the game. Now the Englishman is looking
strong in the event qualifiers and is looking forward to make a superb stat of the new snooker season.
