Barry Zito shines San Francisco Giants defeat Chicago White Sox 4-2 – MLB Recap
Barry Zito put in a brilliant pitching performance as he permitted just two base runners with a strike and a walk in five innings as the San Francisco Giants beat Chicago White Sox 4-2 at Scottsdale Stadium in Arizona on March 9.
Zito expressed his feelings and said, "Fastball, change up for the most part. I felt significantly better than I've felt on the mound during spring training. Things were just smooth. When things are quiet and moving slowly, that's where success lies."
Barry had such a competent day that he didn't catch his throw limit in the game. He ended with 10 extra pitches in the bull-pen session. Aubrey Huff, Giants’ first baseman made one homer and one strike in just over three innings.
Giants’ manager Bruce Bochy, who had missed the post-season line-up for the Giants during 2010 season, told that Zito is an expert. He further added that Zito is a man who has an ability to handle everything in a right manner involving the post-season. He
appears here and gives it all he has acquired.
Zito smashed Jake Peavy of the White Sox, who permitted a single run.
Peavy is returning from a shoulder injury in the mid of last season. Peavy was asked about his performance and he said, "It wasn't as free and easy as the other day. My body did all we asked it to do. I wasn't very sharp, but I had pretty decent stuff. A
good step in the right direction and moving on toward [my] ultimate goal, and that's to break camp with the team."
Jake planned to start five days right through the entire spring season. Catcher A.J. Pierzynski stated that Peavy was the only man who believed to go three innings and his slider was really awesome like the last two years.
The Giants grounded a roster that could intimately be similar to their opening day collection at the end of current month, with the omission of ninth-spot hitter Mark DeRosa, who was the designated hitter against the White Sox.
Huff made two runs and with that addition, Giants posted three runs in the sixth inning on RBIs from Buster Posey, Andres Torres and White Sox relief pitcher Jeff Gray.
Giants’ closer Brian Wilson worked hard in his continuous innings. He provided only two hits, a walk and two hit outs.
Although, the White Sox got end-to-end single home-runs from Adam Dunn and Stefan Gartrell in the ninth inning, they were unable to take a victory.
The Giants managed to put in a tremendous effort as they restricted the White Sox offence from scoring during crucial innings in the game. Chicago will be looking to improve their performance during the spring training sessions.
