Manchester City’s midfielder and England international, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Gareth-Barry-c14423 has gone on to admit that he would love to extend his stay at the Etihad Stadium, but also went on to admit that it was up to the club to decide just what the future has in store for him.
At the moment, the player’s current contract with the club is set to run out in the summers of 2014. This means that he will soon be entering the last year on his contract with the team.
However, there have been a number of reports, which have claimed that the player is willing to take a substantial pay cut, in order to stick around with the team for a little longer.
Barry has not really gone on to talk about this pay cut that he has offered to take, but he has openly gone on to admit that he would love to stay with the team for as long as he could, as he feels he has a lot more to offer and to give to the team.
"I am happy here and settled," Barry told the press. "I'd like to stay as long as possible.
"Of course, for a player to feel settled, you want to be playing regularly. I have been lucky enough to feature in a lot of games this season. That's why I'm happy to stay”
“I have a year left. Nothing has been mentioned but I think they've said they will maybe speak to players over the summer. New people have come in upstairs and we're not too sure how they work.”
He then went on to talk about the fact that there were a number of other players at the club as well, who were looking to hear about their future with the team.
"It's not just me, there are others like http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Carlos-c8346 [Tevez] and Joleon [Lescott] who have a year left on their contracts."
Barry then reflected on his international career, as he feels that he needs to be getting more opportunities to represent England. At the moment, he claims that Roy Hodgson has not contacted him since the summers, and that something needs to be changed in
the near future.
"I've been out of the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/England-c749 squad for nearly a year and, when you've been out for that long, it becomes harder to get back in, especially as I'm 32," he admitted. "I've not heard from Roy Hodgson since the summer.”
