Bars/clubs in melbourne, australia?

going for a night out with the girls this weekend, and was just wondering if anyone knows of nice bars or clubs in melbourne, australia? we're looking for somewhere a little different, quirky and unique. also, preferably somewhere that doesnt usually check i.d as one of my friends lost her wallet this week, with all of her i.d in it!

There are all sorts of places you could go to in the CBD area.  If you want out of the way, head to the Croft Institute which is tucked away in an alley (directions below).  Lily Blacks is a bar which has 1920s style decor and has a large and varied cocktail selection where you won't have a problem with ID as long as your friend doesn't look like a kid.  If your friend has a passport, it might be a good idea to carry it around for ID as some places will demand it.  You can also get a stat dec from your local police station to that effect and use that as it is a legal document.
