Question:

Bars to go to alone in San Francisco?

I'm traveling to SF solo next month but still want to be able to go out at night. Can anyone suggest any bars that won't be completely intimidating for a 27 year old woman to pop in by herself? I'll be staying around the Union Square area.

  1. Union Sqare offers lots of options:

Part Sports Bar, part piano lounge, part hoffbrau, all local color and all fun at Lefty O'Douls on Geary at Powell

Farallon on Post between Mason and Powell, a good seafood restaurant, but go for the ambiance, like having cocktails in an underwater garden.

Swig on Geary at Mason, fun and cool, young hip crowd.

Cantina on Sutter between Powell and Mason tapas and creative margaritas, still kind of unknown so not so crowded.

Sugar Bar on Sutter at Jones similar ambiance to Swig, just steps away from the Cellar kind a dive bar but wildly popular.

The following Hotel bars while pricy are worth a try.

Redwood Room at the Clift Hotel - Warning Very pretentious crowd!

Cortez in the Hotel Adagio - good food too!

Starlight Room at the Sir Francis Drake - Nice view bar.
