I have a follow-up interview coming up soon. I want to impress my interviewer, so I want to know some popular drinks I can make. Please tell me your favorite drink. I have a recipe book so I know how to make them. Also, any advice for me. I've never had a job so any helpful advice would be nice. Thanks!

  1. ok, first of all i've been in the liquor industry for 40 years so i know my ****.

you must turn up to the interview moderately intoxicated to show that you fully accept and do not discriminate against those who drink.

secondly, you must make an original drink comprised of no less than 600 different alcohol beverages mixed into one 250mL glass. this will take tremendous skill and resources. if you could successfully do this, i think any bar in the world would hire you.

also an ability to juggle glasses and bottles at the same time is desirable. practise this for a minimum of 35 years before applying to ensure you don't drop them.

  5. Well If you have no experience, You may be out of luck. Just be honest and let them know you are willing to learn. There is a h**l of a lot more to being a good bartender then just making drinks. Being a mixoligist is a way to become a great bartender and you have to have a great personality as well. Its not just the drinks...its the tips. The type of drinks you will be making totally depend on where you live and the type of bar. As a former professional I had the highest sale and an average tip amount 24% of my total sale and held awards for the most sales out of over 30 other bartenders. Flair can melp but is only for show and again that depends on the bar.

As for most types of drinks I served , Martinis, shots( kamakazi, fireballs, buttery nipples,b52s etc) and normal things like rum n cokes and such. Unless it is a fancy bar or a restaurant frozen and fancy drinks are rare. My best advice is go to one of the schools for two weeks than get a job though them so you have a bit of experiance.

Good Luck! I do it part time now and on contract.

  6. Martini's rock, dry ones too.

  7. First of all, know your basic drinks.  I am going to list them without the ingredients since you have a book for looking them up.

Cosmopolitan, apple martini, screwdriver, martini (vodka or gin, on the rocks or up, olives or a twist), Manhattan, Long Island Iced Tea, rum runner, old-fashioned, and a margarita.  That's a sampling, but a pretty good one.

Also, try finding a recipe you like and putting a spin on it.  This will show innovation and attention to detail.  A personal favorite of mine is making a mint julep with vanilla vodka (i.e. Stoli Vanilla).

Don't forget to smile.  Personality and ability to multi-task is everything in tending bar.

  10. Favorite Drinks to make:

    Long Island Ice Tea:

    1/2 oz. Vodka

    1/2 oz. Light Rum

    1/2 oz. Gin

    1 oz. Triple Sec

    1-2 oz. Sour Mix

    1-2 oz. Cola

    Lemon Wedge

I don't put Tequila in mine...

    Vesper (007 James Bond's Martini):

3 oz. Gin (usually Gordon's Gin)

    1 oz. Vodka

0.5 oz. Lillet Blanc or Dry Vermouth

    Lemon Twist

    Shaken...not stirred..and served extra chilled.

    Top Shelf Margarita, Rox, Salt:

1 1/2 oz. "top shelf" Tequila

    1/2 oz. Cointreau

    1/2 oz. Grand Marnier

    1/2 oz. Rose's Lime Juice

    3 oz. Sour Mix

Rim glass with salt and add a Lime Wheel. Sometimes I just go with an ounce of Cointreau or an ounce of Grand Marnier depending on the customers preference. Or if just making a regular margarita go with regular Triple Sec in replace or the Cointreau/Marnier.

    Favorite Drinks to Drink:

    Rum and Diet Coke:

    2 oz. Bacardi Superior

    4 oz. Diet Coke

    Good for watching the weight/dieting.

    Captn' N Sprite:

    2 oz. Captain Morgan

    4 oz. Sprite

    Tastes like Cream Soda.

    French Vanilla White Russian:

1 1/2 oz. French Vanilla Kahlua

    1 1/2 oz. Vanilla Vodka

Fill rest of glass with French Vanilla Creamer or Half & Half

    mmmmmm.... so good.
