Barton Stacey aims to land The Class 5 Hay-On-Wye Booksellers Maiden Hurdle at Hereford
The Class 5 Hay-On-Wye Booksellers Maiden Hurdle will take place at Hereford today, 4th April. The track has been labelled good, and it will cover a distance of 2 miles and 4 furlongs.
14 runners will be competing for a purse of £1,689.
Barton Stacey has a chance to show improvement on this track today.
The son of Snurge, out of mare Lifes Treasure, started his career on 18th May, 2011, and bagged a tremendous victory in the Ladbrokes Standard Open National Hunt Flat Race at Worcester.
Mounted by Rachael Green, he made slow progression throughout the race, but picked up speed in the end. He defeated, c**k Of The Rock, by a narrow margin of a short-head.
The seven-year-old gelding maintained his consistency throughout his four career starts with placed finishes. This will be the season debut for the runner, and his seasonal debut could turn out to be victorious, which will give his season a brilliant
start.
The gelding was trained by Anthony Honeyball till 23rd June, 2011, until David Pipe took over, who trains him for owners, Pipe Monkees.
He finished as a runner-up in the closing race of his season, where he was ridden by Tom Scudamore. He entered the Ladbrokes Maiden Hurdle as a favourite with the odds of 11 to 10 on 24th August, 2011 at Worcester, where he
was defeated by 1 length by, Broughtons Point.
Regal Park, son of Montjeu, out of mare, Classic Park, has the ability to improve on this kind of surface. The five-year-old gelding finished fourth in the Turftv Novices’ Hurdle at Musselburgh on 16th February, 2012, where
he was mounted by Jamie Moore.
Owned by Mrs Ann Gloag, the runner is trained by Gary Moore. He finished sixth in the Canterbury Horse Rescue Maiden Hurdle at Folkestone on 29th February, 2012.
Regal Park can claim this victory if his hidden potential comes out. He has been successful on flat surfaces, and he will have to bring something extra to the table to shine.
Barton Stacey’s may be the biggest threat to Regal Park with his retained composure, and consistent performances which could be the only factor riding on his side today.
