Everything has been discussed in detail regarding http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Olympique-de-Marseille-c40127. The former Manchester City player has joined Les Phoceens on a season-long loan from English Premier League outfit
Queens Park Rangers.
On the last day of the 2011/2012 Barclays Premier League campaign, Barton was sent off for physically assaulting Manchester City captain http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Sergio-c33030 Aguero. Due to his actions, the Englishman was slapped with a 12-game ban by the English FA.
Due to this, QPR manager, Mark Hughes chose not to name Barton in his 25-man list for the first half of the current campaign. Things were indeed not looking up for the 30-year-old midfielder. However, Olympique de Marseille chose to try their luck on the
volatile player.
Despite knowing that Marseille would have to respect the FA-induced ban on the player, Vincent Labrune chose to trust in Barton. And, the player knows that Marseille made a lot of efforts to bring him to Canebiere.
While giving an interview to a French newspaper, the England international’s agent, Willie McKay revealed a few things about Barton’s move to Velodrome that not many people know about. The agent said that when he informed Barton of Marseille’s interest,
the midfielder was very excited about it and wanted to start a new chapter in the city.
“When I told him about OM, he knew the club, he knew the players. He thought about his new life in Marseille. He enjoys the training conditions here. Joey told me that he had been impressed by the competence of coach and the staff.
And, despite being offered more money from Turkish giants Fenerbahce, Barton chose to drop 20% amount of fees on his contract in order to secure a move to Marseille.
“When it was revealed that OM was interested in Joey Barton, Fenerbahce came to sign him. Many other clubs also wanted him. But Joey wanted OM; he agreed to lower his salary to sign here. He dropped 20% of his contract to come to Marseille.”
A lot of negative things have been said about Barton over the years. However, the recent revelations mean that the Englishman is certainly very serious about doing well for a club that has put its faith on him.
