Barty/Dellacqua cripple Miyamura/Wongteanchai to grab title – Dunlop World Challenge 2012 CH
Australian duo, Ashleigh Barty and Casey Dellacqua, devastated the third seeds, Japan’s Miki Miyamura and Thailand’s Varatchaya Wongteanchai, with a breadstick at the Dunlop World Challenge 2012 on Saturday. They jolted down a 6-1, 6-2 victory against the
lower seeds to claim the crown at this event which is part of the ITF (International Tennis Federation) Women’s Circuit and is held in Aichi, Japan.
Seeded top in this tournament, Barty and Dellacqua achieved their goal after overpowering the Japanese-Thai collaboration in 49 minutes. After stealing the spotlight, the Australians captured the title at this indoor carpet tournament.
Barty and Dellacqua made a thunderous entry at the Sky Hall Toyota. They smoothly slid their entire serves with conviction and after breaking their opponents’ serve twice, the Aussies pulled out the opener with a breadstick. They were never threatened with
any breakpoint and capitalised on two out of three break chances to move a step closer towards the glory.
The highest ranked team of the tournament, Barty and Dellacqua kept momentum rolling in the following set. They quickly bagged their entire serves and broke their opponents’ serve twice, eventually sealing the set with a 6-2 win. The Aussies held their entire
serves without facing any barrier and converted two out of three break chances to their advantage.
Summing up the higher seeds’ performances, Barty and Dellacqua coughed zero double faults and hammered two aces. They nudged up a lower first serve share of 52 per cent as compared to their rivals’ 85 per cent but brilliantly marked 19 out of 22 points on
it.
Elsewhere, the fourth seeds, Austria’s Philipp Oswald and Croatia’s Mate Pavic, stole the limelight in the ATP (Association of Tennis Professionals) Challenger Tour event at the Sky Hall Toyota. They battled past the Italian tandem, Andrea Arnaboldi and
Matteo Viola, in a three-set thriller to lift the title. The Austrian-Croatian junction dusted away two out of three breakpoints they came across and cashed two out of six break chances to formulate a 6-3, 3-6, 10-2 score line in one hour and 13 minutes. They
hammered seven aces and ended the match with 59 points.
