Barwick likely to win the Carlisle Bell
Barwick will surely capitalise on the form, gained by his three recent feats in an effort to claim the glorious title of the Lloyd Motor Group Carlisle Bell (Handicap), a Class 4 contest that is going to take place at Carlisle racecourse on Wednesday, June 27. The action is scheduled to commence at 3:30 (GMT).
On the soft track of 7 furlongs and 200 yards, the Mark H. Tompkins trained bay gelding will face 16 competitors including some big guns like, Levitate and Staff Sergeant.
At the end of the race, the winner will carry the cash prize of £14,232.
Barwick owns a splendid track record. The four-year-old horse elegantly broke his maiden in his first going of 2012 on April 9. This was Digibet.Com Handicap that went down at Yarmouth, as he competed against 8 rivals in that race.
The Steve Ashley owned gelding stepped ahead to grab a runner-up spot on April 28. This time, he fought against 11 contestants while sent as the 3-1 favourite.
The brilliant son of Beat Hollow, out of Tenpence, stepped forward to accomplish a tremendous conquest in his last start on June 5. He was again the 7-4 favourite for that event as well.
Thus, these three classic performances have boosted up the Barwick’s morale greatly. Now, it will not be hard for him to make a big impact in today’s marathon.
Among the gelding’s rivals, Levitate is the only runner, who can impede him on the track. The Alan McCabe trained veteran gelding bagged a couple of consecutive runner-up positions during April and May, 2012. He went on to grab a glaring victory in his last start on June 17.
It is expected that there will be neck-to-neck battle between Barwick and Levitate.
Staff Sergeant seems to be a strong contender for the runner-up position, as the Jim Goldie trained bay gelding won the Core (Oil And Gas) Ltd Handicap on May 4, 2012.
He moved on to get a 6th and an 8th place finish during the month of June. Like Levitate and Barwick, he too has two triumphs to his name.
