The Juventus defender conceded that the loss against the reigning World Champions in the final of Euro 2012 was harsh; but stated that it had been a good tournament.
There was popular sentiment of an Italian victory to the run in of the finale of the European Championships, however, things did not go according to their plan and they succumbed to a heavy defeat.

to have lost the final in such a manner. However, he went on to state that it should not drive attention away from all the wonderful performances they put in throughout the tournament.
The Bianconeri defender conceded that there were tired limbs in the Italian team, and they could not cope up with the level of Spain. He also went on to state that there was a reason behind Spain’s dominance in the world stage. He remarked:

The Spaniards had the upper hand from the beginning and could not cope up with the passing game of the reigning World and European Champions. They always seemed to have been chasing the ball down.
Barzagli went on to state:
“We had an excellent tournament apart from the Final, so we resume with a good mentality and some young players. We won’t always be playing against Spain!”
Cesare Prandelli’s men would now be looking to turn their attention to the World Cup qualifiers which would be their next target.
