The Heerenveen striker admits that his side lack the quality that is needed to become champions after receiving a humiliating 5-1 thrashing from PSV Eindhoven.
Heerenveen striker, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Bas-Dost-c7339, has admitted that his side lacks the quality needed to win silverware and has insisted that they have never felt like a title contender.
The outfit from Friesland received a 5-1 hammering at the hands of PSV Eindhoven at Philips Stadion on Sunday, March 18. The two sides will go head-to-head yet again in the semi-final of KNVB beker Cup at Abe Lenstra Stadion on Wednesday, March 21.
The recent defeat has demoralised the in-form Heerenveen to such an extent that Dost has openly admitted that his side was never in a position to compete for silverware.
“We have never felt like title contenders. We simply do not have the quality to become champions. I believe we got away with a 5-1 loss in Eindhoven. It was far worse than the result”, Dost was quoted as saying to the media.
The Friesland outfit are currently occupying the sixth spot on the Eredivisie table, five points behind the league leaders, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/AZ-c38571 Alkmaar.
Although they have thus far performed impressively and achieved good results, the Dutch striker believes that there is immense difference between his side and the other top teams.
Ajax Amsterdam started the Friesland outfit’s demolition when they recorded an impressive 5-1 win on August 14, 2011. http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/FC-Twente-c39233 Enschede repeated the score-line in the following week.
PSV gave Heerenveen another taste of a 5-1 loss in December 2011, and repeated their performance at home on March 18.
“There is a significant difference between our side and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/PSV-c40281. We have achieved good results against smaller clubs. However, our comprehensive defeats against PSV, Ajax, and Twente clearly depict the difference in class. Shall I repeat the results, 5-1, 5-1,
5-1 and 5-1; all defeats”, Dost added.
The 22-year-old striker then went on to insist that PSV are the favourites to lift the Dutch cup and win the the Eredivisie title.
“PSV will become champions. I know we would be hit hard yet again in the Cup match on Wednesday”, Dost concluded.
