Question:

Bas Rutten, self generated fame?

Is it me or has Bas Rutten had a second coming of fame since he started working with Kimbo?

I like Bas and I think he has done a lot for the sport and I think he's a good fighter. It just seems like he "dimmed down" a bit up until Kimbo entered his life.

Do you agree or disagree? Tell me why you feel that way.

  1. bas is to good a martial artist and to good a bloke to have his name linked to a loser like kimbo, but thats the way of coaching high profile sportsmen or sports teams.

  2. I disagree, he's always been a great trainer.

He was one of the IFL coaches before the Kimbo hype.

  3. Bas has always been a big name and involved in a lot of things. He has been a trainer a commentator and a d**n good fighter. I don't think he is gaining anything from Kimbo I think he is giving some legitimacy to Kimbo because they train together. That is why his name is being used so much so people can say hey Kimbo is being trained by Bas maybe he isn't just some street fighter that lack technical skill. Bas has also been featured is some interesting things like the show fight science which was awesome and who could forget him having his own show in GTA 4.

  4. Kimbo is the one who garnered fame and legitimacy after he started training with Bas.

Bas has always had a pretty significant number of fans, mostly based on his Pride FC commentary.

  5. You tell him I think I will take a pass on that one.

  6. Bas is one of the most knowledgeable fighters out their.  Sure he's getting more attention now but he's been active in many asspects for MMA for a long time now.

  7. Bas has some of the heaviest hands in the sport. Of course his name is out there more since his student is starting to get big. That's the way it is with coaches. Scotty Bowman never would have been as big as he was if the Red Wings weren't a big team. For those who know, Bas is a legend. For those who don't, they're being introduced to a legend.

  8. depends who your talking to...Hardcore MA fans remember Bas' antics from the 80's and 90's...His Kata parody, Big Bas' Combat Videos, his announcing on MMA shows...He definitely self generated his fame because of his charisma and personality...thats how he got so many fans...and he was a friggin monster in the ring...
