Do you need a special thermometer to chart your body temperature or can you use any digital ones? I know you have to do it first first thing in the morning even before talking or getting up but not sure on the kind of thermometer I need. Thanks

  1. Any Digital Thermometer works. i asked this same question yesterday. I m stationed in germany and i couldn't find one anywhere and yesterday everyone who answered my question said any digital one works.

    Good Luck!!!

  2. The answers you've been getting seem to be half and half from the peanut gallery. I can tell you, as someone who did this for almost a year, I was able to use a digital thermometer that measured your temperature in your ear after a few seconds, that it works just fine. I never got a bogus chart, even when the ovulation test sticks were wrong! As long as you find a thermometer that will measure within a tenth of a degree, you should be fine. Just make sure you are consistent in your charting habits and do not get out of bed until you have done it. Believe me, it takes some getting used to when you're groggy and forgetful first thing in the morning!

  3. Yup, you need a basal thermomter.  Also, you need to take your temperature, first thing in the AM, before getting up or doing anything - AND at about the same time everyday - even if that means setting an alarm clock for a wekend.

    Good luck...

  4. you need a basal thermometer, and they can usually be found in the womens section of the drug store.  they are more accurate to one tenth of a degree.  you need it to be that accurate because when you temperature shifts after ovulation it could be as minimal as a few tenths of a degree.
