Question:

Baseball (Babe Ruth)

I have a Babe Ruth poster showing Ruth in the middle wearing a Yankee uniform holding a bat with 60 baseballs surrounding his picture showing the dates of his homeruns. The bottom center of the poster is dated 1927. The baseballs and the date were all done in pencil/ Babe Ruth wrote the following on his picture. “To my Pal (Cant make out the name) someday I hope you break this record from (signed by Babe Ruth) dated September 15, 1931”. I need help finding out who he may have signed the poster for. I’m thinking it was possibly another teammate perhaps Mickey Mantle? If you know of any websites for experts in this field perhaps I could write them. Thank you very much for any information you could give me.

  1. I "can't read the name" is the problem here?

Could be small town player or pitcher that the Babe was always taking up with or ?

  2. I really doubt it's to Mickey Mantle - he started playing for the Yankees in 1951 - a full 17 years after Babe's last season with the Yanks, and 3 years after Ruth died.

Best bet to try to identify the name would be to look at the Yankees 1931 roster - you can find it at:

  3. Antique road show.
