Baseball News: Texas Rangers continue their hunt for top agent
The Texas Rangers are looking at a new age and it doesn’t surprise many to see the club, do their best in the coming years, when they compete in the Major Leagues for ultimate glory. The side went above all expectations and criticisms, when it beat the New York Yankees for the American League Championship title. It cemented its first play-off victory, with a qualification, for the World Series. 2010 was all-in-all, a year to remember.
The accomplishment was immense and that is what the ownership is proud to be a part of. President Nolan Ryan has been the driving force behind the team and his backing has been bolstered by the owner, Chuck Greenberg. However, one of the key reasons behind the Texans progress in the regular season and the play-offs has been, Cliff Lee.
The 2008, American League CY Young Award winner, had been the major component to the club’s success. Manager Ron Washington was rallying his hitters and pitchers for the task but cliff Lee seemed like he needed none of it, as he quelled the Tampa Bay Rays and the Yanks to get the club through to the World Series. He cancelled off the Rays in two appearances, beating David Price to the pitch. Against the Yankees, he tore down Andy Pettitte for the major victory. Now a free agent, Lee has a say in where he plays, next season. Many see him making a move to the Yankees Stadium but the management at the Rangers club is hoping to sign the player soon.
At the moment there’s no news on a deal going through with any club and Lee’s agent, Darek Braunecker, recently said,
“I think it's fair to say that we are advancing the process. We don't really know when a deal will get done. We'll be ready to act when we get the right deal with the right team. When that might be is pure speculation.”
However, what would make one think that the Yankees aren’t a strong candidate, for Cliff Lee? Braunecker answered that question with,
“Cliff is on record as saying he enjoyed every aspect of (playing with the Rangers)," There is mutual interest. If he had not enjoyed the experience, we wouldn't be engaged in the process. But since we are, it's an indication of how favorable it was.”
