  1. Yay you know that the trade is happening through the waiver wire! I'm impressed.

  2. um.. im not really sure but i would really like to know that too

  3. Three days. If another team claims the player, Arizona can pull him back. That is why trades after August 1st often involve a PTBNL. The Reds may agree to wait until the end of the year if they player they want does not clear waivers.

  4. The players they will be trading are most likely minor leaguers that are not on the 40 man roster so they don't need to go through waivers.  They have up to 6 months after the trade to announce who the players are.

  5. It is suspected that one of the PTBNL is Micah Owings. He probably would not have passed through waivers had he still been in the majors. but, as was pointed out, PTBNL circumvents that for a minor leaguer. So, I would suspect you'll see this deal completed fairly soon after the end of the season.

It would not surprise me to see that the second name is Jaime D'Antonia.

  6. Actually, the use of the PTBNL is to avoid the waiver rule. The more players that go on waivers (particularly young talent), the greater the likelihood that some other team will claim one of those players and scrap a deal. This way, they can wait until the waiver period ends, and then transfer those players without the extra hassle.

  7. Waivers are 48 hours.
