Baseball Special Report: The controversial steroid using players
Baseball is the most entertaining sport in America and in some other parts of the world. Over the years, it has produced a lot of great players, who achieved high statuses and whom people idealised as heroes. The general formula for success and fame has always been hard-work and commitment but there is also a catch. As a matter of fact, some very popular players of baseball have under-gone suspicious activities, which gave way to the scepticism and lowered their popularity graph.
The great performances simply amaze the observers and leave a long lasting impression on their minds. There are a lot of players who are gifted with exceptional game-skills and they never fail to impress in the field. However, there are quite a few, who accidently make headlines, due to their un-usual activities and non-serious behaviour in the game. That is why; the players sometimes face the hostile criticism of their fans and get a lot of flak for bizarre trades.
Besides this, there is another fact that people have different tastes, choices and they prefer various players for many reasons. Some of the players are loved by some and at the same time, they are hated by others. Even the most popular players form jealousies and get negative feedback from the fans.
Baseball has provided the world with terrific players, who were simply adored and worshipped but it could never stop them to avoid the use of drugs. The following players always set a trend in the game but often remained in controversies.
Barry Bonds
Barry Bonds, the former MLB outfielder, is a big name in the history of Baseball. He was associated with the Pittsburgh Pirates and San Francisco Giants for considerable 21 years. Although he served the game for several years but he led a very controversial career on account of steroids scandal. Moreover, he was known for cheating, failure to do time behind bars, aloofness, and mostly for breaking Hank Aaron’s HR record. He was the central figure in the steroids scandals in baseball, which not only ruined his image but it also brought a bad name to the game.
Mark McGwire
Mark was the famous major league player who spent his time with Oakland Athletics and St. Louise Cardinals. He also admitted to use the un-fair means of boosting his performance. With the open confession of mal-functioning trade, his previous accomplishments also gathered a lot of doubts and suspicions. In 1998, Mark broke the single season home record of Roger Maris but it lost its merit when Mark was convicted with the use of steroids.
Alex Rodriguez
He is the Yankees’ top player who bears a nickname of A-Rod. Alex Rodriguez has a lot of achievements to his name and is considered the best all-around player in baseball. Alex is one of the highest paid players in the Major League Baseball (MLB). He hit 500 home runs at a very young age to break Jimmie Foxx’s record. Oddly enough, A-Rod is associated with the same stories of cheating and using performance enhancing drugs which make his achievements a bit suspicious.
Roger Clemens
Here comes another one, the baseball’s best pitcher, Roger Clemens who is also called the “Rocket” in baseball. Roger was alleged to have used the anabolic steroids for the enhancement of performance, which he plainly denied but somehow, the news spread in the air. Another weird account which has been associated with Roger is the bat-shattering case. In 2000, Mike Piazza broke his bat on Clemens’ pitches; Roger picked up one of the shards and hurled it at Piazza. It created a lot problem for him afterwards and brought a lot criticism because of losing sportsmanship in the game.
