Baseball Deadline Trade

Some smuck dropped Conor Jackson in my league and i was able to snag him off the wire. I had crazy injuries at the beginning of the year and got into a points hole, I've since managed to put together a good team. 10 team HXH league. I think i need to trade for some pitching talent but am not good at coming up with fair batter for pitcher offers.

My team looks like this, i need a SP and/or SS. I stand in 5th place only 12 pts back from first.

I was just offered Matt Kemp and Johan Santana for my Adrian Gonzalez and Church- Would you guys take it? Team Below

C- Soto

1b- Adrian Gonzalez, C Jackson!

2B- Philips- got him for Reynalds

3B- A Rod

SS- TULO (grrr)

OF- Sizemore, Quentin, Granderson, Church (DL)

SP- Verlanader, Lackey, Haren, Danks, Josh Johnson

RP- Cordero, Hoffman, Sherril, Gregg, Broxton

As you can see I've been very active with the wire and have mined some gems. I was thinking about going out and getting a stud SP. Deadline looms!!

  1. I think your team is strong, but you need to get good relievers.

  2. Your question confuses me.  You say you are 12 points back, which leads me to believe you are playing Roto, but you state you are HxH which looks like Head-to-Head competition.

I am going to target Roto competition first.  In Roto it is too late in the year to make much of a difference on the percentages (batting average, ERA, WHIP....), so it is best to concentrate on the counting statistics like HR, RBI, SB, Wins, Saves, and Strike Outs.

The best way to build those statistics is to make sure that you have each position filled whenever possible.  Consider "streaming" your Starting Pitchers by picking up a new one everyday based on who is a Probable.  I hate to say this, but I would think about dropping Verlander and use that roster slot for a new starter every day.

Using the Streaming method you will build up your Strikeouts and hopefully the Wins, as well.  Your relief pitchers are not too bad, but if you have room to pick up another middle relief pitcher, they can get a couple wins and probably enough strikeouts to make a difference.

Now, if you are really playing Head-to-Head, you have to do the Streaming of Starting Pitchers to get enough starts to get enough Wins and Strikeouts to make up the difference.  Pay attention to which Starting Pitchers are scheduled to have 2 starts in the week.  Usually a pitcher working on Monday or Tuesday will also start once more during that week.

As for your desire to go out and get a "stud" starting pitcher this late in the season, that is going to be tough.  Look at pitchers that are coming of the Disabled List (like Chris Carpenter).  They can be a forgotten source of numbers.

    Good Luck!
