Baseball boycott, would you support it?

When I was a kid, my little-league coach used to take the team to the Phillie's games each year. If you did that now, it would cost a thousand dollars. the average person can't take their family to a pro game. Do you think a boycott could be organized to send a message to the owners that we want our game back? If so, would you support it?

  1. I would support it but sadly too many don't seem to care about it so sadly the owners & players will continue to take advantage of the fans until they one day have the guts to stand up against it & boycott going to the games.

  2. If you want ticket prices to go down, salaries need to go down. For Salaries to go down, egos need to go down and loyalty needs to go up. For egos to go down, media has to stop feeding egos.

Here's an interesting note: While playing MLB 2K8 on a PSP, after a few years the highest payed player is payed at most 800K a year, probably a glitch in the game's design. Most players are payed little more than a middle class person. Which is how it really should be, because they're playing a game. Even if they play it better than most people in the world, it's still a game.

Overall, a boycott is probably too serious. We can just hope the future players have more controlled egos, and are more loyal to the team that brought them up like they were before the Selig era.

  3. Most teams offer group discounts, it seems like there's always little league teams at Angel stadium.

I do agree, it's pricey...but there are seats for $12.  The owners won't care, because in some cities like Boston or NY, if you don't go someone else will.  Or if you go to Cincinnatti or Florida, if you dont' go....there will still be 23,000 open seats everynight.

Plus, the tvs always free...so enjoy that.

  4. Take them to a minor league game instead.  If I were to go to the closest major league team with 12 kids at $23 per ticket for the cheapest non-bleacher seats (or even the bleachers at $14 per ticket) that adds up to a lot of money.  And that would be assuming I could get tickets at face value - they typically go for about 3 times face value.  Now, if I took them to the closest minor league team (AA level) each kid gets in for $5.

  5. i would

  6. Nope.

I love my teams too much.

    And you're exaggerating.

The Rangers have tons of discounts and I think there are some days where kids are free with the purchase of an adult ticket...

And I have 2 free tickets and 4 1/2 price tickets to a Rangers game because I voted for their All Stars. =D

    Where there's a will, there's a way.

Besides, what's stopping people is gas prices.

    =D

  7. The SF Giants do have one specific day for Little League and "Junior Giants" teams for recognition and they get free admission, but that's only one day out of the entire season.  I remember purchasing .50 general admission tickets from the SF Police Department precincts for SF Giants games at Candlestick Park, having little league teams attend games at deep affordable discounts and also having discounted or free tickets available to those students that kept good grades throughout school.

Now, the bottom line prevails and ticket prices are attributed to player salaries, food and souvenirs, groundskeeping, front office salaries, potential draft scouting, sponsorships, extra amenities to keep VIP's happy at the park and also for name brand marketing for the team.  It's a business and not a sport anymore.  Everything with "$" overshadows whatever goes on in the stadium.
