Question:

Baseball cards appraisal online?

My nephews who are in their late twenties gave my son a collection of baseball cards that they had collected when they were younger. They are all in mint condition in a book with plastic sleeves and the others are in a two boxes, also in mint condition. These cards are from the 80's and 90's.

My son is 11 years old and is not a sports nut and we would like to sell them to help fund his braces and or space camp or education.

We were thinking there must be good places online where we could look up all the cards to find what they should go for.

Any suggestions?

Is it better to sell them individually or in bunches?

Ebay or a collector shop?

We don't know much about the value but I want him to get the most he can obviously. I don't want to go into this as we are knowing nothing and get short changed.

  1. beckett.com is a good web site.  Ebay would be a good place to sell the cards.

  2. Your best bet would be to find a private collector.

  3. Baseball cards are a tricky investment. You can go to Beckett's.com and try there. You can also go to a bookstore and get a Beckett's book of card values and look them up.But the thing is just because the book lists a value of a card it doesn't mean that's what you will get for it.A card is only worth what someone will bid for it on ebay.I have seen cards that listed for say 60 dollars sell for 10 dollars. You just never know.A card dealer will never give you book value either because they want to make a profit on a card. You will probably make more selling them separately, but of course that is a lot more time consuming.
