Baseball pitching potential/ advice opinions?

Hey I'm not here to boast on my skills, I just want to know what my potential is. My coaches and peers say that I have a chance, but you never know until it's really time. I'm going to be a junior in high school, Wisconsin leagues such as Wisconsin allstars, and perfect game I'm the best out there. I'm pretty small and plan on weight training and core workouts all through my offseason, because this is the biggest year of my career. I pitch, and right now top out around 82mph. I'm going to be taller than 6 feet, hope to weigh around 170 by the end of this year, and hit only decent. My curveball is great, and my changeup needs a little work. I know the odds of going pro are so slim you can't even imagine going pro if you don't think you can. I'm wondering if I have a chance at the pro's, or even nice colleges, because my life revolves around baseball. Anybody with expert knowledge I will accept an opinion and advice on how to make myself better. I hope to throw in the higher 80's or maybe touch the 90's by the end of my senior year. Let me know, Thanks a lot!

P.S. ~ My GPA isn't that high, so harvard is out of the question.

  1. Hey man i asked a question like this too, I hope we both make it far man GOOD LUCK! Even though you probably throw just a bit harder than me :P

  2. I suggest filling out as many of those college recruitment questionnaires as you can and sending them to any college you think you might be interested in.  I also suggest finding a real good pitching coach.

Edit: Also go to any showcase camps held at local community colleges.

  3. Well your 17 and you only throw 82 and your GPA isn't good. It doesn't look good for you kid. There are so many kids who are much better then you and still don't make it. Its tough but i'm sorry it really doesn't look good at all. I consider working hard at baseball but always concentrating on school. Even if you want to make college you would need good grades. It doesn't look good kid.

  4. if you are going to be taller than 6 feet, that is not necessarily small. The weight training might help a little bit but what you want to do most of all in off-season is long distance throws because it maximizes your armstrength building and lets you evaluate alot of things for yourself after you see where your throws land. If you want to pitch then you have to be the judge of how you want to build armstrength but I suggest doing as much as you can take with ample rest. go to www.youtube.com and look and jaeger sports. you really want to be throwing balls 300feet in the air consistantly when your a senior to have any chance.

  5. just work on your pitch control/movement/and velocity

also work on you stamina by jogging and stuff so you can have more IP

you should also at least learn one more pitch such as a slider

keep the ball down and occasionally up and hit those corners. Always change speeds so you can keep the hitter guessing That will get you a decent id not better ERA

good luck on working out and stuff

    Hope you make it!!!

  6. I think you have a great chance, but here is the deal..you must work your a$$ off, and make sacrifices, I played on a team with Brandon Webb in high school, and I never expected him to make it, but he out worked everyone else, I think it worked out for him.
