Question:

Baseball player development?

I believe i'm a pretty good baseball player. I don't suck, but i'm certainly no super-star. I'm that guy who everyone counts out at the beginning of try-outs, but is then wowed by how much better I got over the off-season. It's always been like this. When I was a little kid, I wasn't very good, but the one thing I really enjoyed was baseball. For a few years I just played because I was signed up by my dad, but as I got older I started to grow into myself more. I started hittng better, fielding better, throwing harder. I realized that I actually had some talent, and I started to work on it. Come freshmen year of highschool, I wasn't half bad, and I wound up making the freshmen team despite many claims that I wouldn't (most by kids that didn't make it). I ended up being benched the whole season though. The next year I went out for the Sophomore team. Once again, I made it, again apparently against all odds according to some people. But I can;t think of where i'm going to end up.

  1. Just curious, where are you from becuase where i live, someone who throws that hard is god. Anyways, you should try-out for an AAU or some other independent travel team and play that in the summer, or even in the spring and skip high school baseball. These teams are very competitive and travel all over in tournaments. Some are sponsored by companies like MizunoUSA and Under Armour. If you're really looking  to play in college or pro's you better start getting noticed now and if you are on a good team, they will play in tournaments with scouts and college coaches. You have a better chance of getting noticed that way.

  2. Don't worry about your coaches being lousy talent evaluators. If you are really good the MLB scouts will find you. But rather than worry about MLB you should work to improve and get a baseball scholarship in college, or at least a spot on a college team.

Many MLB players were not high school sensations. Many who were overlooked used that as motivation to prove how wrong their coaches were. But love of baseball is a better motivator than resentment.

  3. at some parts you sound all mad if you use everything that you learned you will make it to majors and for the people who dont know your name will besitting on there couch and saying i know him to there kids so there there kids will think they are cool bcause they know a famous person

  4. It's a lot easier to throw fastballs by freshmen and sophomores than it is past varsity level players. Do you have any other pitches? Hopefully your velocity continues to increase as you age and work at it because 81 isn't going to get you noticed. Good luck.

  5. tell the head coach, let him know what is up. oviously you have the stuff now just convince him to give you more opportunities and what you deserve.

you can also get yourself in some out of school teams, such as a travel team b/c high school baseball isn't for a while so until then condition yourself. work on your endurance, stamina, strength, sharpen your hitting as well as pitching. pace yourself now. you don't want to overwork yourself.

  6. wow your situation is very similar to mine. i first started out in minor age 8 and couldnt do anything i was terrible. then years went by and i started to get decent. i could pitch but not that good. i was a decent hitter and my strong point was fielding at first base and playing outfield (im a lefty) i started working out and getting leaner and stronger began running and swimming. then i just dominated my season and while not throwing but 70 mph i was a junk good pitcher with a above average curveball and good changeup slider and splitter and my fastballs moved alot i could hit homeruns and steal bases and am way better at the field. yet nobody but the rec coaches noticed me. i went to our high school baseball camp and everybody was like wow man do you even know what baseball is but i showed them i was really good. but coaches didnt say anything. sorry for this long story but my advice to you is keep practicing and lift weights. if you dont get recruited to a college walk on at a college and try out for their team. work work work devote yourself to baseball concentrate only on that and excell. hopefully youll get drafted and maybe lets just say you play second base. one of their second basemans get injured and you come up and start and you become succesfull. thats how david wright ryan howard brian mccann derek jeter and many other players became all stars. good luck and enjoy playing the best sport ever.

  7. just keep at it eventually someone will notice and high school and little league is all about who you know

  8. Just hang in there.

  9. A fastball doesn't equal success, even though thats what anybody looks at when making a HS team. Also there are A LOT of politics involved in HS sports. It's mainly whoever the coaches like the most and such.
