  1. Complete game = pitched 9 innings

9-7 is his record (9 wins, 7 losses)

  2. The same thing the guy below me said.

  3. A complete game is when a team only uses one pitcher.

A game where no one scored any runs against him is called a shutout.  It is possible to get a shutout and not a complete game.  If a reliever comes in the game before the starter has not gotten anybody out and the reliever finishes the game without giving up any runs then he gets a shutout but not a complete game.  Neil Allen actually did this on May 31, 1988.  http://www.baseball-reference.com/boxes/...

Santana 9-7 means Johan Santana has won 9 games this year and lost 7.

  4. Santana pitched a complete 9 inning game and gave up one run.  With that win he is now 9 wins and 7 lost on the year.

  5. A complete game means he pitched the entire game, that's all. It is not a statistic

If the other team scored no runs, its calles a shutout.

9-7 refers to his record for the season, 9 wins 7 losses

  6. When a pitcher pitches a complete game, that means exactly what it implies. He was on the mound for the entire contest for his team. No relief pitchers were used.

The numbers following the pitcher's name is his won-loss record. 9-7 indicates he has won nine games and lost seven. You may also see a number like 3.85. This is his ERA (Earned Run Average). This is the average number of runs he gives up for every nine innings he pitches.

  7. Complet game means he pitched the whole game and 9-7 means he has nine wins and seven losses on the season

  8. A complete game simply means he was the only pitcher the Mets used for the game. He pitched all nine innings. 9-7 is his won-loss record, nine wins and seven losses.

  9. Complete game doesnt necessarily mean no one scored. It just means he pitched the entire game for his team. A shutout is when a pitcher pitches the entire game without allowing a run. 9-7 is his win/loss record. He has 9 wins and 7 losses.

  10. It means he pitched the entire 9 innings of the game, usually the starting pitcher does not pitch the entire game they will come out at some point and another pitcher will go in.

  11. It means Santana started the game and finished the game without any pitcher coming in for his team.  He pitched every inning of the game.

the 9-7 is his Won-Loss record.  He won 9 games this year while losing 7

  12. Yes he started the game and finish...These days its very rear, cause most only go 7 inning and then the bullpen pitcher finish the game....and the mets have one of the best....
