  1. A player can be freely traded to any other team in the majors up until July 31st. After that point, he can still be traded, but he must either pass through waivers unclaimed (all 29 other teams had a chance to claim him and didn't - in which case he can be traded to anyone), or he is claimed by a team - in which case the two teams have 48 hours to work out a trade. Should they not be able to work out a deal, the team that waived him can pull him back off waivers and keep him - or they can just let him go to the team that claimed him.

You will also most likely hear that the next trade deadline is August 31st. That also, is not true. August 31st is the date by which any player one wishes to be qualified for post season games must be on your roster. A player can be traded after September 1st - he just can't play for you if you're in the post season.

  2. the waiver dead line is August 31

  3. they used waivers or something. I'm not really sure how it works.

  4. The last trade deadline was July 31, and it was the non waiver deadline.  Teams can still make trades but the players involved have to clear waivers - meaning other teams have an opportunity to claim said players.  Something like that.

  5. You have to clear waivers after the July deadline.

  6. they had to use waivers

  7. That was the non-waiver deadline. So people could make trades without a player clearing waivers. With the Waiver trading other teams can pick them up by the time it gets to other teams so some teams can steal players from going to their rivals if they wanted. I see what you mean tho it can get confusing.
