Question:

Baseball workouts to develop a faster swing?

2 of my friends and I decided that we're gonna work out before school this year. They play football too so they wont be focusing on the same things as me. I know bench is probably the most worthless workout for baseball.

I have an idea for core lifts. I'm just curious what auxiliary lifts are out their to develop a faster swing?

  1. wrist rollers and swimming

  2. It should be mostly skull crushers, forearms, and wrist exercises. Alot of it is muscle memory though. Keep the same swing, then develop more strength.

  3. From someone who played baseball for 20+ years and still does.

Strengthen your forearms by doing either wrist curls or squeezing something like a tennis ball in your spare time. Workout with dumb bells rather than with a bar.

    Triceps Extensions

    Nosebreakers

    Lat. Pulls

Swing a old bat under water (like in a swimming pool) which may sound stupid but it works very well.

    Practice with a wooden bat.

    Pratice with a heavier bat.

Practice against faster pitching from a shorter distance.

    Good Luck with your conditioning.

  4. Just swing with a weighted bat.

  5. some things i did that worked for me:

skull crushers then right after with the same grip bench that bar and you should fill it in your triceps for both of those

tri-mowers: like lawnmower lift, start at the highest point in a lawnmower lift (arm bent to your side) then extend your arm back until it straightens. once again feel it in your triceps.

wrist curls to strengthen the wrist and forearms. i have this bar attached to a rope where i put  15 pounds of weight on on the bottom of the rope and you have to roll the rope up on the bar. so you hold the bar out straight in front of you and twist the bar until the weight is all the way to the top. that burns the forearms big time.

what i did on non-game days was swing a bat one inch longer and one ounce heavier. and then on game days id swing my normal bat. so if i swung a 32, id swing a 33 on non game days. other teammates this didnt work for them but it did for me.

and theres also this special type of bat. it has a wooden handle with a like heavy rubber lower 3/4 and its pretty heavy. and it says on the bat that if you swung it 30 times, followed by 30 swings of your normal bat then it would increase your bat speed by 3% over one week and 9% over a month. i never tried it but my teammates could swear by it.

just swinging every day should help your bat speed in crease

    good luck

  6. zotman curls. bring the dumbell up like you normally would, then when you bring it down, turn your wrist slowly as you bring it across your chest (kind of an inverted motion)
