    First, we don't know what the first self-replicating molecule was, because it happened four billion years ago and left no trace in the fossil record.

    Second, it may have been RNA, which doesn't resemble any of the choices given.

    because some viruses are RNA viruses, but that's a totally bogus answer.


  2. Since viruses don't self replicate you can cross that out. Bacteria are much more ancient than either plants or animals so that would be the "most" correct answer. However, I agree with the other answerer in that the question is complete c**p and we have no idea...we don't even know what the first self replicating molecule was in order to begin to answer the question.

    Whoever asked you this question has serious deficiencies in their understanding of biochemistry and biology in general.
